Blown Budget, Higher Taxes

Every householder has a budget and most of us run over from time to time. None of us, however, run over budget by $1.6 million halfway through our calendar year. But that's exactly what the City of Savannah has done and now they want to raise our taxes because they can't keep their house in order.

The City complains to us that the ongoing problems at SCMPD combined with overruns for personnel, overtime, temporary labor and prisoner medical costs have added up to a $1.6 million deficit...and we're only six months into the calendar year. But this same irresponsible regime continues to spend our money like there is no end to it. The shocking thing is that this is an election year when incumbents running for re-election are supposed to be running in the opposite direction away from bigger spending and higher taxes.

Could it be that this city is so utterly corrupt that the outcome of the elections are guaranteed to keep these gangsters in place and that they can continue to do whatever the hell they want without fear of being voted out? How else can a city council get away with implementing a tax increase in an election year?

Is anyone paying attention?

Anyone?
